You are on a new fitness journey, but now need a daily protein shake. Post-workout protein shakes are always a great idea, as they are used to properly build muscle and even speed up muscle recovery/growth. Certain protein shakes contain amino acids which are essential for recovery. But which ones to choose from??! Everywhere you turn you see whey protein, milk protein, blah blah blah. Thankfully we live in 2017 where gluten and dairy free options are becoming more readily available.  You have to know which ones to weed through as a lot of brands creep in unnecessary ingredients even when they’re labeled organic. I personally do not like shakes that contain any types of gums (xanthan, guar, acacia, gellan) because I get bloated whenever I consume any of these raw. They are thickening agents which provide your smoothies with a thicker texture, and very common in dairy and gluten free shakes. Also, other side effects include sore throats, flu like symptoms and gas. Who has time for that????

I am extremely active, and protein is a must for me. Also, protein powders that contain amino acids are very healthy for you in general, even if you aren’t that active. So, I’ve compiled a list of a few different powders I love and use for different purposes. They aren’t listed in any particular order and I wanted to provide you with a few options.

  1. Rootz Paleo Protein

I love how nutritious this powder allows my shakes to be, especially in the morning for breakfast. This is a superfood blend that contains Egg White Protein, Sacha Inchi Protein, and Hemp Protein. The electrolytes in this powder contains banana and coconut.  Other ingredients include: Chia Seeds, Flax Seeds, Maca Root, Bee Pollen, Acai, Goji Berries, Blueberries, and Royal Jelly. It also has a green detox blend containing: Spirulina, Chlorella, Kale, Spinach, Broccoli. As you can see it’s a very nutritious blend, which helps me to maintain my body when I am slimming down and still provide me with the proper nutrition. One scoop contains a whopping 14 grams of protein, 7 grams of carbs with 4 of them being dietary, and 97 calories. I usually blend with water, ice and half a banana. If you have the time, adding homemade almond milk or some sort of frozen fruit is always tasty. The code: IAMSHE will save you 10% off the site.

2. Ultra Premium Organic Pea Protein

This is perfect for you vegan lovers. Pea protein is great because it’s just one simple ingredient…peas. I love the simplicity and the fact it’s unflavored, allows you to customize to your preference. Made from fresh raw peas, this powder contains over 15 amino acids, 23 grams of protein, and less than 3 grams of carbs per serving. I love blending this in my ninja, along with frozen fruit, water, and a banana. If you blend for about a minute, the longer the better, the pea protein seriously provides this milkshake like texture. The results are a super versatile creamy texture.

3. Vital Proteins Collagen Peptides To Go Packs

The collagen protein packs are awesome to add to a bottle of water while I’m working out. The collagen peptides provides me with amino acids while I’m lifting. A major difference between this and the supplements you purchase from stores: collagen peptides are made from a natural source such as grass-fed, pasture-raised bovine hides. The packs are perfect to add to one bottle during your workout, or if you know that you can’t consume a protein meal right after your workout (usually it’s ideal to consume protein within 30 minutes of completing a workout), these are great to take with you. Made from bovine hide collagen, this helps maintain your hair, skin, bones and joints. Collagen is so vital in our diets especially if you’re lifting hard. You can even add a pack to your hot coffee in the morning as it easily dissolves. These are a fav with 9 grams of protein, 35 calories and amino acids you can take to go.

4. Vital Proteins Collagen Beauty Greens

This beauty greens powder elixir is wonderful because it has so many components in one smoothie blend. I would say the taste is neutral, so I usually add some coconut sugar or honey, banana, and vegan milk. It’s loaded with marine collagen peptides, raw organic greens, hyaluronic acid, and probiotics. It improves your skin’s moisture, smoothness, and tone too. Made with organic kale, organic barley grass & wheat grass, spinach, coconut water and collagen from a red snapper….it creates an awesome multi-functional smoothie. Plus it contains all the daily amino, glutamic, and hyalauranic  acids your body needs and great for recovery in workouts. Contains 10 grams of protein, crazy packed with 8,000 mg of collagen and raw greens plus potassium which super helps after a long run.

5. MRM Veggie Protein – Vanilla Flavor

If you need to have a vanilla flavoring, this powder is perfect. It’s a vegan mix without any extra gums. Contains 22 grams of protein, 130 calories, 7.5 grams of carbs (4 dietary) that is infused with omegas, amino acids – its perfect since it has no added sugars. Again, I love blending with water or almond milk, frozen fruit, and a banana. Super tasty blend!

Lastly, I use the ninja to blend all these shakes thoroughly. Very convenient, decently priced, easy to drink and take with me everyday since they are individual cups made for one to two servings. NO joke, I blend a smoothie twice a day. I attached some creations below I’ve personally made using these brands to provide some inspiration. Cheers!
